The Sacrifice

In 1986 Andrei Tarkovky released his final film, The Sacrifice.

It has long been one of my most treasured films, and for reasons that are mysterious it is calling to me this morning.

Perhaps it is the pervasive sense of doom, the collpase of meaning, and the threat of cultural catastrophe, and the need to find simple actions beyond the mundane world of action to make the sacrifice required to saved the world.

In any case, all I want in this blog today, is to record the enduring note of its tragedy, and to observe the extraordinary image from the film of the house in flames, lit in an act of madness or an act of sacrifice to redeem the world, that corresponds to the themes of this blog.
